Procedure

In a single-neck 100 ml flask, tricyclo[6.2.2.02,7 ]dodec-9-en-3-one (10 g, 56.81 mmole) was admixed with methanol (20 ml). There was then added 5% Pd/C (0.1 g) and the catalytic hydrogenation was carried out at atmospheric pressure during 1 h (stirring: 2000/rot/min). After filtration, concentration and bulb-to-bulb distillation (B.p. 120°/5hPa), 8.7 g (48.87 mmole) of the desired dodecanone were obtained (yield 86%).
