Procedure

Dissolve 1.59 g of 1-[N-benzyloxycarbonyl-(S)-alanyl]-azacyclooctane-2(S)-carboxylic acid in 100 ml of methanol. Add 0.40 g 10% palladium-on-charcoal and hydrogenate the mixture at atmospheric pressure. Filter the mixture and concentrate in vacuo to give 1-[(S)-alanyl]azacyclooctane-2(S)-carboxylic acid.
