Reaction Steps

Heat 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfoxide (1.0 g, 7.1 mmol) and piperidine (2 mL, 20 mmol) at 60° C. for 2 hours. Treat with 5N sodium hydroxide, extract with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL) and dry (MgSO4). Concentrate in vacuo to yield 800 mg orange oil. Purify by silica gel chromatography (50% ethyl acetate/methanol) to yield 560 mg (42%) of the title compound as a yellow oil. 438E-25 MDL 101135
