(S)-2-Hydroxy-3-((methylsulphonyl)amino)propanoic acid 2-propenyl ester (0.9 g, 4.04 mmol), iodomethane (9 ml) and potassium carbonate (0.64 g) in acetone (50 ml) were heated at reflux for 20 h. The solvent was evaporated and the residue dissolved in water/ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent evaporated to give the sub-title ester (0.83 g).
