Procedure

The acid prepared in Example 3 (0.2 g, 0.5 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (10 ml) and stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 16 h at room temperature in the presence of 10% palladium on carbon catalyst (50% aqueous paste). The mixture was filtered and the solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give an oily residue, which was re-evaporated from acetone and then crystallized from acetone (10 ml). This afforded 0.13 g (65%) of the title compound.
