Reaction Steps

A mixture of 4 g of N-[3-(bromomethyl)phenyl]-N'-[4-(tetradecyloxy)phenyl]urea and 2.3 g of 5-methylthiazole in 60 ml of tetrahydrofuran is refluxed for 4 hours. The solvent is evaporated, toluene added to the residue and evaporated to a residue. The residue is stirred with ether and the solid collected, washed with fresh ether and dried under vacuum to give 4.7 g of the desired product as a white powder, m.p. 65°-168° C.
