Procedure
A mixture of 2-bromohypoxanthine (6.3 g; 29.3 mmol), 2-ethoxy-5-aminopyridine (12.1 g; 87.9 mmol), 2-methoxyethanol (90 mL), and water (15 mL) is heated under reflux for 3 h. The reaction mixture is cooled to room temperature, the precipitate collected by filtration and washed with water and methanol to afford N2-(2-Ethoxypyridin-5-yl)guanine (6.4 g), m.p. >350° C.
