Reaction Steps
Thionyl chloride (15 mL) was added slowly to a solution of 6.0 g of the above alcohol in 100 mL methylene chloride and the reaction stirred at room temperature for 18 hr. The reaction was concenterated, the residue dissolved in 150 mL methylene chloride and washed with 10% NaHCO3 solution. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to give 6.3 g of (3-chloromethylpyridin-2-yl) (3,5-dichlorophenyl)amine.
