139 g (0.5 mol) of ethyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (Uvinul 3035), 200 ml of 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol and 10 g of Na2CO3 were reacted together at 182° C. with distillative removal of the ethanol formed, assisted by a stream of nitrogen. After about 4 h, the reaction mixture was diluted with 300 ml of methanol and filtered hot in order to remove the Na2CO3. After the filtrate had been cooled, the precipitate which had formed was filtered off, washed with petroleum ether and dried, giving 130 g (67%) of 4-tert-butyl-cyclohexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate as a colorless solid.
