Reaction Steps
A solution of the ethyl ester of 13e (1.15 g, 4.0 mmol) in dry dichloromethane (50 ml) was treated with boron tribromide (16 ml, 1.0 M solution in CH2Cl2, 16.0 mmol) at 0° C. After 15 min at 0° C., the mixture was warmed to 25° C. and stirred for 16 h. The reaction mixture was cooled in an ice bath and quenched with a dropwise addition of water (20 ml). The resulting mixture was briefly stirred at 25° C. then filtered. The filtrate was carefully neutralised by the addition of solid NaHCO3 to afford 13f (700mg, 71%) as a white solid: m.p. 186-187° C.
