Reaction Steps
0.45 g, 3 mM, p-nitro benzaldehyde, 0.61 g, 3.5 mM, N-(Cyano acetyl) benzyl amide (reference 9) and 50 mg β-alanine in 20 ml ethanol were refluxed for 5 hours. Cooling, and filtering gave 0.67 g, 73% yield, light yellow solid, mp-164°. NMR(CDCl3) δ 8.44 (1H,S,vinyl), 8.35, 8.07 (4H,AB, JAB=8.8 Hz), 7.35 (5H,m), 6.6(1H,br.t,NH), 4.63(2H,d,J=5.8 Hz).
