Reaction Steps

As in Example 134, a solution of (E,E)]-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,4-decadienoic acid 4-nitrophenyl ester (2.5 g) and 3-pyridinebutanamine (1.12 g) in tetrahydrofuran (25 mL) was stirred overnight at room temperature. After the usual work up, the crude product was purified by HPLC (ethyl acetate) and then was crystallized from ether-hexane to provide 1.3 g of (E,E)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-N-[4-(3-pyridinyl)butyl]-2,4-decadienamide, mp 83.5°-84.5° C.
