3,4-Dichloro-5-cyano-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (Intermediate 131, 0.9 g, 0.2 mmol) was dissolved in excess thionyl chloride (5 ml) and heated to reflux for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue was dissolved in THF and concentrated (×2). The solid (0.82 g, 89%) was pumped to dryness and stored under argon.
