tert-Butyl 4-{(2-{[2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1,3-benzothiazol-7-yl)ethyl]amino}ethyl)[3-(2-phenylethoxy)propanoyl]amino}piperidine-1-carboxylate (Example 11c), 0.050 g) was stirred with 4N hydrogen chloride in dioxan (1.3 mL). After 15 minutes, methanol (1 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Ether (5 mL) was added to give a white precipitate. The precipitate was allowed to settle, before decanting off the liquid. The residue was concentrated in vacuo, azeotroping with ether to give the title compound as a white solid (0.030 g).
