Procedure

A mixture of 0.7 g (2.2 mmol) of 8-chloro-6-(2-fluorophenyl)-2H,4H-pyrrolo[3,4-d][2]benzazepine and 2.0 ml (18 mmol) of trichloroacetyl chloride in 20 ml of methylene chloride was refluxed for 7 days. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and partitioned between methylene chloride and saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The methylene chloride solution was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated at reduced pressure to give a white solid mp 240°-245° (dec).
