(rac)-7-Isopropyl-2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-5-methyl-5,7-dihydro-1H-imidazo [4,5-f]indol-6-one is prepared from (rac)-N-(3-Isopropyl-1-methyl-6-nitro-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-5-yl)-4-methoxy-benzamide (443 mg) by hydrogenation at 70° C. as described in Example 1b) using Raney-nickel (70 mg). The catalyst is filtered off and the filtrate heated at 100° C. for 1 h. After a typical aqueous work-up the crude material is purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with light petroleum/EtOAc (3:1) to give the desired compound (311 mg).
