Procedure
A mixture of 6-chloronicotinonitrile (0.78 9, 5.54 mmol) and ethyl [(1S)-5-(3-aminopropoxy)-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-yl]acetate trifluoroacetate (Example 263, 2.17 g, 5.54 mmol) in CH3CN (14 mL) and 1,4-dioxane (14 mL) was heated to reflux for 8 h, cooled to rt, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The product (1.14 g, 54%) was isolated after column chromatography (2:1 hexanes/EtOAc). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD2Cl2) δ 8.20 (s, 1H), 7.45 (dd, 1H), 6.94 (d, 1H), 6.67 (s, 1H), 6.58 (dd, 1H), 6.32 (d, 1H), 5.42 (b, 1H), 4.02 (q, 2H), 3.95 (t, 2H), 3.50-3.35 (m, 3H), 2.85-2.68 (m, 2H), 2.59 (dd, 1H), 2.32-2.20 (m, 2H), 2.00 (qt, 2H), 1.70-1.60 (m, 1H), 1.17 (t, 3H).
