Unpurified imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-ylethanone [1-1] was dissolved in 400 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide dimethylacetal, and overheated overnight under reflux. The dimethylformamide dimethylacetal was distilled off under reduced pressure, and then diethyl ether was added to the residue. Thus obtained solid was separated by filtration and dried under reduced pressure, to obtain 5.06 g of (E)-3-(dimethylamino)-1-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl-2-propen-1-one [1-2] as a light brown solid.
