2-Chloro-5-(ethoxycarbonyl)-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid (Intermediate 7, 1 g, 4.24 mmol) was dissolved in thionyl chloride (5 mL) and refluxed for two hours. It was then concentrated to give the desired product (light brown oil, 1 g). NMR (CDCl3): 1.37 (t, 3H), 4.39 (q, 2H).
