A solution containing 0.77 g (0.0017 mol) of 2-morpholin-4-yl-5-(5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepin-10(11H)-ylcarbonyl)benzenesulfonamide of Step B and 0.62 g (0.0034 mol) of trichloroacetyl chloride in 50 mL of 1,4-dioxane was heated under reflux for 3 hrours. The solution was allowed to cool to room temperature and then poured into 750 mL of water with stirring. The solid was collected, washed and dries to provide the title compound (0.88 g), m.p. 165-167° C. dec.
