A solution containing 1.84 g (0.01 mol) of 10,11-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine, 2.28 g (0.01 mol) of 9H-fluorene-2-carbonyl chloride (generated via the reaction of 9H-fluorene-2-carboxylic acid and thionyl chloride) and 1.21 g (0.01 mol) of N,N-dimethylaniline in 125 mL of 1,4-dioxane was allowed to stand at room temperature for two hours. The reaction mixture was poured into 1 L of water, the precipitate was collected, washed with water and dried to provide the title compound (3.59 g). The material was recrystallized from acetone, m.p. 202-204° C.
