Reaction Steps
2-Fluoro-6-iodo-benzaldehyde (3.0 g, 12 mmol), 1,3-propanediol (1.3 ml, 18 mmol), and para-toluenesulfonic acid (342 mg, 1.8 mmol) is heated at reflux in toluene (60 ml) using a Dean-Stark apparatus for 2 hours. The organic layer is washed with brine and dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to afford the desired compound (3.65 g).
