1-(2-fluoro-3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-ethanol (Intermediate B2) (4.7 mmol) in acetic acid (13 mL) and water (3 mL) was heated to 100° C. for 1 h. The mixture was cooled to rt and basified with 2M NaOH. The compound was extracted with ethyl acetate and the solution was concentrated onto silica gel. The product was eluted with 3-5% NH3-MeOH: CH2Cl2 to give 1-(2-fluoro-3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)-ethanol (Intermediate B3) 1.1 g (85%).
