16 g (0.075 mol) of 5,6-diamino-1-(2-hydroxypropyl)-3-methyl-2,4-(1H, 3H)-pyrimidinedione (VI) was refluxed in 35 ml of acetic acid for 15 minutes. To the warm solution 30 ml of chloroform was added and ether was then added slowly. The received crystals were filtered off. Yield 16 g (VII). These crystals were refluxed in 40 ml of 2 N NaOH for 30 minutes and then neutralized with 18 ml of 5 N hydrochloric acid. Crystals were filtered off and recrystallized from 50 ml of water. Yield 6.6 g (VIII). NMR.
