To 0.9 g. (0.0024 mole) of 8-allyl-5-chloro-7,8-dihydro-7-oxo-2-phenylpyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester in 30 ml. of ethanol was added 0.17 g. (0.0024 mole) of 2-methoxyethylamine and 0.25 g. (0.0024 mole) of Na2CO3. This mixture was heated at reflux for 4 hours, then filtered and the filtrate chilled. Yellow crystals formed and were collected on a filter. Recrystallization from ethanol gave 0.5 g. of product--m.p. 155°-158° C.
