A stirred solution of 1-bromo-1-(3-methanesulphonyl-phenyl)-propanone (176c) (0.32 g, 1.01 mmol) is treated with thiourea (0.067 g, 0.88 mmol) added in one portion. The reaction mixture is allowed to stir at room temperature over two days. The product precipitates out and is filtered to yield the title compound as while solid.
