Ethyl 3-(6-methyl-3-pyridyl)acrylate (60.36 g) was hydrogenated in ethanol at 35° and 355 kPa using palladium-on charcoal catalyst (10%, 1.0 g). The mixture waas filtered and the filtrate was evaporated to give ethyl 3-(6-methyl-3-pyridyl)propionate as an oil.
