Reaction Steps
To a solution cooled to +5° C. of 23.44 g (0.1 mole) of 4-methoxy-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1-naphthalenol, obtained in Example I, in 400 cm3 of anhydrous 1,2-dichloroethane and 11.7 cm3 (14.06 g=0.1 mole) of benzoyl chloride, there are added, by portions, 16 g (0.12 mole) of anhydrous aluminum chloride over a period of about 30 minutes.
