Procedure
600 mg of methyl N,N-di-allyloxamate was dissolved in 20 ml of methanol. The resulting solution was stirred under ice-cooling, to which 15 ml of 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was added dropwise. After completion of the dropwise addition, the resultant mixture was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. The resulting reaction solution was distilled to a volume of about 10 ml at room temperature under reduced pressure. The concentrated solution was adjusted to pH 4 by addition of 1N HCl, followed by extraction with 50 ml of ethyl acetate. The extract solution was washed with saturated saline and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate added. After filtration, the organic layer (the solution) was concentrated under reduced pressure, to afford 460 mg of the title compound, N,N-di-allyloxamic acid as white solids.
