The 2-methoxy-6-(1-bromoethyl) naphthalene prepared in Example 9 was dissolved in 8.0 grams of collidine (2,4,6-trimethylpyridine) and the mixture was refluxed for 45 minutes. The product mixture was cooled, diluted with diethylether, and washed with dilute hydrochloric acid. The ether solution was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and the diethylether removed by evaporation. The structure of the resulting product was verified as 2-methoxy-6-vinylnaphthalene by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.
