Reaction Steps

To 0.7 g (2.0 mM) of 2-(p-acetoxyphenyl)-6-hexylbenzothiazole, 0.25 g (6.0 mM) of sodium hydroxide and 50 ml of ethanol, followed by stirring for 10 hours at room temperature. After the reaction, the reaction mixture was poured into water, and 2 ml of concentrated hydrochloric was added thereto to precipitate a crystal. The crystal was recovered by filtration and sufficiently washed with water, followed by drying to obtain 0.6 g of 2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-6-hexylbenzothiazole (Yield: 96.5%).
