Reaction Steps

To a solution of 1.25 g (4.19 mmol) of the product of Step A dissolved in 15 mL of CCl4 was added 0.821 g (4.61 mmol) of N-bromosuccinimide and 20 mg (catalytic amount) of AIBN. The mixture was stirred at reflux for 3.5 hours, then cooled, filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified on a silica gel flash chromatography column eluted with 15% ethyl acetate/hexane to afford 0.431 g (27%) yield of the title compound.
