Procedure

1.3 g (2.98 mmol) of 2-hydroxy-4-[[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxybenzoyl]methoxy]benzoic acid, 200 mg of 10% palladium on charcoal and 50 ml of dioxane are introduced into a reactor. The mixture is hydrogenated at room temperature and under a pressure of 7 bar for 4 hours, the catalyst is filtered and washed with 50 ml of THF, and the filtrates are evaporated. The residue obtained is purified by chromatography on a silica column, eluting with a dichloromethane/methanol mixture (98:2). After evaporation of the solvents, 1 g (77%) of the expected acid of melting point 178°-179° C. is collected.
