0.11 g of chloroethyl carbonate was added to a solution of 0.5 g of 2-(1,2,3,4,10,14b-hexahydrodibenzo[c,f]pyrazino[1,2-a]azepin-2-yl)ethoxyacetic acid (prepared as described in Example 2) in 10 ml of chloroform containing 2% by volume ethanol, whilst ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. At the end of this time, it was washed with water, and the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was subjected to column chromatography through silica gel eluted with ethyl acetate, to give 0.25 g of the title compound as a colorless oil. The infrared absorption spectrum of this compound is identical with that of the compound prepared as described in Example 1.
