Isothiourea sulfate (21.2 g) was dissolved in water (40 ml) and a 2N solution of sodium hydroxide (46 ml) was dropwise added under ice-cooling. The mixture was stirred at said temperature for 30 minutes and trans-4-aminomethylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid dissolved in boiling water (100 ml) was dropwise added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled and the resultant crystals were collected by filtration. The crystals were thoroughly washed with cold water and dried to give 18.5 g of trans-4-guanidinomethylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid, melting point 325° C.
