3-[5-(2,4-Dioxo-thiazolidin-5-ylidenemethyl)-benzofuran-3-yl]-acrylic acid ethyl ester (205 mg, 0.6 mmol) (example 71) were dissolved in THF/water 4:2. To this solution was added under stirring 81 mg (4 eq.) of LiOH.H2O. The reaction was stirred for 15 h. The solvents were evaporated, and the residue was precipitated with ether. The solid was washed with 1NHCl and dried to afford 170 mg (90%) of pure 3-[5-(2,4-Dioxo-thiazolidin-5-ylidenemethyl)-benzofuran-3-yl]-acrylic acid.
