To a solution of 2-[1-(3-bromo-phenyl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-ylmethyl]-isoindole-1,3-dione (1.0 g, 2.31 mmol) in anhydrous THF (20 ml) was added 2-tributylstannylpyridine (0.82 ml, 2.54 mmol) and a catalytic amount of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (60 mg) and the resultant mixture was stirred at reflux in a nitrogen atmosphere for 3 days. The reaction mixture was quenched with aqueous ammonia and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extract was dried over magnesium sulphate and concentrated in vacuo. The concentrate was eluted through silica gel with ethyl acetate to afford the desired product. 0.24 g (24%).
