Reaction Steps

To a solution of 4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)aniline (1.00 g, 6.28 mmol) and pyridine (1.52 ml, 18.8 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) was added 2,2,2-trichloroethyl chloroformate (1.30 ml, 9.42 mmol) with ice-cooling, the mixture was stirred for 1 hour with ice-cooling, the reaction mixture was poured into ice-water and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the desired product (1.83 g, 87.1%) as a solid.
