Reaction Steps
To neat 2-fluoro-3-pyridin-4-yl-benzamide (0.94 g, 4.34 mmol) was added 1-iodoethane (3 ml) and the resulting mixture was heated at 100° C. for 2 h. Excess 1-iodopropane was evaporated under reduced pressure and ethanol (40 ml) was added. The mixture was cooled to −20° C. and sodium borohydride (1.25 g, 34.8 mmol) was added in portions. The resulting mixture was stirred for 1 h, after which aqueous sodium carbonate (10%, 50 ml) was added. The aqueous phase was extracted with ethylacetate (3×100 ml) and the combined organic phases was dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated to dryness. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography (ethylacetate/methanol, 1:1) to give the title compound (0.75 g). MS m/z (rel. intensity, 70 eV) 248 (M+, bp), 247 (37), 233 (99), 146 (22), 110 (41).
