Reaction Steps
To a solution of the lithocholic acid 1 (25.1 g, 66.4 mmol) in anhydrous methanol (100 mL), 4M HCl in 1,4-dioxane (100 mL) was added and the reaction mixture stirred at ambient temperature overnight. The reaction mixture became heterogeneous. The reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane (300 mL) and the organic layer was washed with saturated NaHCO3 (2×200 mL). The organic layer was concentrated and dried under high vacuum overnight to provide the pure ester as a white solid (25.7 g, 97%). The analytical and spectral data were consistent with that of reported values (Rensen, Patrick C. N.; van Leeuwen, Steven H.; Sliedregt, Leo A. J. M.; Van Berkel, Theo J. C.; Biessen, Erik A. L.
