Reaction Steps
To a stirred solution of 4,6-dichloro-pyridazine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2.9 g, 14 mmol) and sarcosine ethyl ester hydrochloride (2.15 g, 14 mmol) in acetonitrile (75 ml) was added triethylamine (4.9 mL, 35 mmol). The resultant reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours before adding further triethylamine (4.9 mL, 35 mmol) and heating the reaction mixture at 80° C. for 18 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the resultant residue treated with water and extracted with ethyl acetate (×3), the combined organic extracts dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give a solid. The solid was triturated in hot methanol to give the title compound as a yellow solid (1.6 g, 45%). LCMS (method B): RT=2.64 min, M+H+=256.
