0.81 g (1.7 mmol) of N-[2-(5-bromo-2-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]-4-(4-fluorophenoxy)-benzenesulfonamide (crude product, 21A) is stirred with 0.32 g (3.4 mmol) of glyoxylic acid monohydrate in 10 ml of trifluoroacetic acid at room temperature. After 12 hours, the mixture is poured onto ice and extracted with dichloromethane. Drying with MgSO4 and concentration result in 0.84 g of the title compound which can be reacted further without further purification.
