A solution of [8-chloro-3-(2-chloro-4-methanesulfonylbenzyl)-2,4-dimethylquinolin-5-yloxy]acetic acid methyl ester (0.36 g), methanol (10 mL) and 1.0 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (4.0 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the pH of the residue adjusted to 5 by the addition of formic acid. Purification by preparative reverse-phase HPLC using a gradient of acetonitrile in water (50% to 65% of organic modifier) gave title compound as a white solid, 0.035 g.
