A method similar to that used for the preparation of (99a) was used except that 3-thiophenecarboxaldehyde (762 mg) was used as the aldehyde component to afforded the desired product (549 mg). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 3.795 (s, 3H), 5.19 (s, 2H), 5.99 (br., 1H), 7.07 (m, 1H), 7.34 (m, 7H), 7.49 (d, 111, J=5 Hz), 7.77 (s, 1H). LC/MS: 2.32 min.
