Procedure

A solution of 404 mg of the product of Step 5, 200 mg of NBS, and 5 mg of benzoylperoxde in 10 mL of CCl4 was heated in a 80° C. oil bath under light from a W-lamp. After 30 min, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, diluted with 10 mL of 3:1 EtOAc/hexane, and filtered through a pad of silica gel. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give 400 mg of the crude title compound which was used for the next step without further purification.

Workup

  1. filtrationfiltered through a pad of silica gel
  2. concentrationThe filtrate was concentrated in vacuo
