Reaction Steps

(±)-10-camphorsulfonic acid (5 mg) was added to a solution of [2-hydroxymethyl-4-(4-methylsulfanylphenyl)-5-phenylthiophen-3-yl]acetic acid (100 mg) (Step 3) in CH2Cl2 (5 mL) and the resulting solution was stirred overnight. The solution was diluted with CH2Cl and washed with a saturated solution of NaHCO3, dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent was evaporated under vacuum. Purification by silica gel chromatography using 20% of EtOAc in hexane gave the title compound.
