5-Methyl-2-(3-methyl-but-2-enyl)-2-(toluene-4-sulfonyl-hex-4-enoic acid ethyl ester was prepared according to general method as outlined in example 9. Starting from ethyl α-(p-tolylsulfonyl)acetate (2.9 g, 10.9 mmol and 4-bromo-2-methyl butene (3.42 g, 23 mmol). Yield 4.6 g; tan oil; MS 379.2 (M+H)+.
