To a solution of tert-butyl 4-but-3-enyl-3-oxopiperazine-1-carboxylate (0.246 mg, 0.97 mmol) in 10 mL of 1:1 acetone:water was added sodium metaperiodate (621 mg, 2.90 mmol), followed by a solution of 0.25 M aqueous osmium tetraoxide (0.192 mL, 0.048 mmol). After stirring overnight, the reaction was partitioned between EtOAc and brine. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the titled compound. Proton NMR for the product was consistent with the titled compound. ESI+MS: 257.3 [M+H]+.
