(S)-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-cyclohexyl-acetic acid cyclopentyl ester (1.17 g, 3.60 mmol) was dissolved in a TFA/DCM mixture (1:1, 10 ml) at 0° C. The solution was stirred for 90 minutes, the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue was azetroped with a DCM/heptane mixture (2×) to give a gum. The gum was redissolved in DCM (10 ml) and washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution (3×10 ml), dried (MgSO4) and filtered. The solvent of the filtrate was removed in vacuo to give the product as an oil (0.780 g, 78% yield). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3), δ: 1.00-1.40 (10H, m, CH×10), 1.50-2.00 (8H, m, CH×8), 3.25 (1H, d, CH, J=7.2 Hz), 5.20 (1H, m, CH).
