Reaction between methyl 3-((tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-yl)methoxy)benzoate and CH3CN following the method used in Example 1 gave 3-oxo-3-(3-((tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-yl)methoxy)phenyl)propanenitrile as a white solid. Yield (84%); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) 87.52-7.45 (m, 2H), 7.43 (s, 1H), 7.29-7.26 (m, 1H), 4.75 (s, 2H), 3.93-3.87 (m, 3H), 3.75-3.71 (m, 1H), 3.39-3.36 (m, 1H), 3.28-3.25 (m, 1H), 2.01-1.98 (m, 1H), 1.86-1.83 (m, 1H), 1.60-1.58 (m, 1H), 1.53-1.49 (m, 1H), 1.42-1.39 (m, 1H).
